Government confirms office closures for Christmas/New Year period

Full details of a variety of service changes announced

Government has confirmed that most of its offices will be closed for key dates over the festive period.

These are: Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and 2 January (Privilege Day).

On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, closing times for all public counters will be 4pm, unless usual closing time differs.

In addition, the following special arrangements apply:

Airport – will close Thursday 25 December 2025.

Financial Services Authority – will close Thursday 25 December 2025, re-opening as normal Monday 29 December 2025 and will close again Thursday 1 January 2026, re-opening as normal Monday 5 January 2026.

Health and Social Care Facilities –

  • Emergency Department at Noble’s Hospital will remain open throughout Christmas and New Year. A Minor Injuries Service will be operating out of Noble’s Hospital.
  • Manx Care’s Public Counters will be closed on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 December 2025, Thursday 1 January 2026, re-opening Friday 2 January 2026 with a reduced service.
  • GP surgeries will close at 6pm Wednesday 24 December 2025, re-opening 8am Monday 29 December 2025.  They will close again at 6pm Wednesday 31 December 2025, re-opening at 8am Friday 2 January 2026.  During the closure periods, the Manx Emergency Doctor Service (MEDS) will operate as normal. Outside of MEDS opening hours, please attend the Emergency Department at Noble’s Hospital.

Home Affairs

  • Department of Home Affairs Headquarters – counter will close at 1pm Wednesday 24 December 2025, re-opening on Monday 5 January 2026.  
  • Isle of Man Constabulary, Police Headquarters – counter will be open from 10am to 6pm Thursday 25 December 2025 and Friday 26 December 2025. Yellow telephone is available outside the building 24/7 for direct contact with the Emergency Services Joint Control Room.

Income Tax – counter will close at 2pm and phones will close at 3pm on Wednesday 24 December.  The counter will be open as normal 9am to 4pm on all other days the office is open.  Telephone lines will be open until 4pm on Wednesday 31 December 2025.

Manx Museum and House of Manannan – will close Thursday 25 December 2025, Friday 26 December 2025 and Thursday 1 January 2026.  Normal opening of 9.30am to 4.30pm at all other times.

Manx Utilities – counter will close at 4pm Wednesday 24 December 2025, re-opening as normal from 8.30am to 5pm Monday 29 December 2025.  The counter will close again at 4pm on Wednesday 31 December 2025, re-opening as normal from 8.30am to 5pm Monday 5 January 2026.  There will be 24-hour Emergency Support 687687, Freephone 0808 1624 115.

Occupational Health Services – reduced staffing levels from Monday 22 December 2025 to 2 January 26, normal service resumes Monday 5 January 2026.

Passport, Immigration & Nationality – counter will close at 2pm Wednesday 24 December 2025, re-opening as normal from 10am to 2pm Monday 29 December 2025.  The counter will close again at 2pm Wednesday 31 December 2025, re-opening as normal from 10am to 2pm Monday 5 January 2026.

Planning & Building Control – counter is closed on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and Wednesday 31 December 2025.

Poortown and Stoney Mountain Quarries – will close at 3.30pm Friday 19 December 2025, re-opening as normal at 8am Monday 5 January 2026.

Registration Offices, for the registration of births and deaths as follows:

  • Douglas will close at 4pm Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 9am Monday 29 December 2025. Douglas will close again at 4pm Wednesday 31 December 2025 until 9am Monday 5 January 2026.
  • Ramsey will close at 12 noon Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 9am Monday 29 December 2025. Ramsey will close again at 12 noon Wednesday 31 December 2025 until 9am Monday 5 January 2026.
  • Peel will close at 4.45pm Tuesday 23 December 2025 until 9am Monday 5 January 2026.
  • Castletown will close at 12 noon on Thursday 18 December 2025 until 9am Monday 5 January 2026.

Sea Terminal – will close Wednesday 24 December 2025 following the arrival of the PM sailing and the outlets closing.  The Sea Terminal will close Thursday 25 December 2025.

Social Security and Housing, Markwell House - counter will close at 1pm Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 9am Monday 29 December 2025.  Counter will close again at 1pm Wednesday 31 December 2025 until 9am Monday 5 January 2026.  Please note the Ramsey Office is only open on Tuesdays from 10am to 1pm and 1.45pm to 4pm.

University College Isle of Man – counter will close at 4pm Friday 19 December 2025, re-opening as normal at 8.30am Monday 5 January 2026.

Vehicle Test Centre – will close at 12.30pm Wednesday 24 December 2025, re-opening as normal at 9am Monday 5 January 2026.

Welcome Centre – will close at 4pm Wednesday 24 December 2025, re-opening on Saturday 27 December 2025 from 8am to 4pm and from Monday 29 December 2025 and Tuesday 30 December 2025, 8am to 4pm. The Welcome Centre will close again at 4pm Wednesday 31 December 2025, re-opening on Friday 2 January 2026 8am to 4pm and from 8am to 5.30pm from Monday 5 January 2026.
