Heritage Homes refutes Lewin allegations

Representatives of Heritage Homes have refuted a series of allegations made by a former employee about the company and the Kirk Micheal land-swap deal.

Seamus Nugent and Graham Kirkpatrick were appearing before the Tynwald Select Committee which is looking into the aborted deal, proposed between the developer and the Department of Education and Children.

The deal was part of a plan by Heritage Homes for a major residential development in the village.

In an opening statement, Seamus Nugent described Charles 'Buster' Lewin as an 'unprincipled narcissist', who would be 'sitting in his cell, laughing' at the damage his 'malicious accusations' were causing.

Lewin is serving a prison sentence over the Douglas East by-election fraud.

The committee was told Lewin had been employed on a basic salary of £20,000-£30,000, and had not been promised 'millions' for securing land and property deals, as he had claimed when he appeared before the committee in May this year.

Allegations of Heritage Homes withholding information from government about access rights to the land in Kirk Michael were strongly denied, with Mr Kirkpatrick saying it was publicly available at the General Registry.

Mr Nugent told the committee Lewin had nowhere near as much influence at Heritage as he had claimed, and was eventually suspended for gross misconduct, relating to a bogus land deal.
