Job vacancies 'very high' across all sectors says MHK keen to scrap work permits

Smith calls for appropriate 'checks and balances' if plan gets Tynwald backing

Job vacancies on the Isle of Man remain ‘very high’ across all sectors with demand for workers outstripping the number of people available to fill them.

That’s according to an MHK with political responsibility for Treasury.

There have been 1,282 applications for work permits so far in 2023.

Andrew Smith, who represents Garff, has told Manx Radio he wants to see the permits scrapped but not without ‘checks and balances’:

Tynwald will debate changes to work permit rules at next month’s sitting of the court.
