Just 28% satisfied with condition of Manx roads

Survey finds fewer are happy with Island's highways than in 2019

Less than 30% of Manx motorists are satisfied with the condition of the Island's roads.

That's according to the results of the Highway Satisfaction Survey run by the UK's National Highways and Transport Network.

Just 28% said they were happy with the condition of local highways, down from 34% in 2019.

Overall satisfaction was recorded at 51%, slightly below the UK average of 52%.

Pavements and footpaths also came in below the British average, with just half rating them as satisfactory, while only 46% were happy with routes and facilities for cyclists.

A number of other areas saw satisfaction rates drop over the last 12 months, including traffic levels and congestion, and public transport information.

The study also found motorists feel there are more potholes than in the previous 12 months, and they haven't been well informed of maintenance.

Bus services led the way for satisfaction, with three-quarters approving of the network.

Surveys were sent to 3,300 Manx residents, with 624 submitting feedback - a response rate of less than a fifth.
