Man facing charges of possessing criminal cash

31-year-old also accused of heroin possession

A Ramsey man says thousands of pounds hidden in an extractor fan in his home came from a Douglas car wash and has nothing to do with drug dealing.

Thirty-one-year-old James William Francis Quayle of Thornhill Close appeared before Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks at Douglas courthouse.

He's facing two charges of possessing criminal cash and one of possessing heroin with intent to supply it to others on 21 July.

Prosecution advocate Roger Kane told the court police swooped as Mr Quayle was with another man at Dogmills in Ramsey at 3:30pm.

Inside Mr Quayle's Audi A3, officers discovered digital scales, a blender and a backpack.

In the backpack was 276 grammes of heroin and when police searched his home, they found thousands of pounds in banknotes wrapped in plastic and hidden in a cooker’s extractor fan hood.

Mr Quayle's advocate said that cash was from Baywash in Douglas, which had been burgled – he said his client was hiding the money at his home for security reasons.

Mr Brooks refused to grant bail and remanded Mr Quayle in custody to appear again on 23 September.
