Manx Care Bill to be introduced to HoK this month

Significant step towards establishing new system

The Manx Care Bill is to be introduced in the House of Keys this month.

It marks a significant step in establishing Manx Care, a 'cornerstone' recommendation of the 2019 Sir Jonathan Michael report into the Island's health and social care system.

The programme will see an overhaul of healthcare, and aims to put the service user at the 'centre', whilst separating policy and delivery from the DHSC.

Progress on this had been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Health Minister David Ashford says Manx Care is due to operate in a 'shadow form' from January next year, three months later than originally planned.

The target for a full roll-out remains April 2021.

Meanwhile, government is looking to recruit a non-executive chair of the body.
