MER keeps calm and carries on

Isle of Man Transport says services are safe after accident

Isle of Man Transport says its electric tram services are safe to carry on whilst investigations into an accident continue.

An MER trailer de-railed and toppled on to its side earlier this month during a routine shunting manoeuvre just north of Laxey station.

It wasn't in public use at the time and no-one was injured in the incident.

However a full investigation has been launched into what caused the accident.

Chief Engineer, Peter Maddocks, says the shunting manoeuvre concerned takes place without passengers onboard.

Since the accident it hasn't been carried out.

He says all operational arrangements have been reviewed and he's confident scheduled services can safely continue.
