Mining prospecting underway soon

 

A rebirth of the Island’s mining industry could be on the cards, 60 years after the last large-scale operations ceased here.

 

The Department of Economic Development is about to issue licences in four areas to companies interested in carrying out initial prospecting.

 

It’s hoped deposits could be found in Glen Rushen, Sartfell, Glen Cramman, and Snaefell – where the Island’s last mines closed in the 1950s.

 

Senior Manager for Energy Policy Ken Milne says he doesn’t yet know what might be found:
