Ramsey meeting

New education proposals will be discussed at a special meeting of Ramsey Commissioners this evening (Monday).

Director of Education John Cain will attend the meeting, which starts at seven o’clock in the Town Hall.

Members will consider consultation documents in relation to the Education Bill 2008 which, if it became law, would see teachers given the legal right to use approved restraining techniques if pupils were harming themselves or others, or damaging property.

It also includes moves to give teachers the power to search students if they were suspected of carrying offensive weapons.

Also on the agenda is a notice of motion, submitted by Leonard Singer, opposing plans to introduce an all-Island delimited taxi service.

Mr Singer believes the change would have a harmful effect on the provision of taxi services for the people of Ramsey and the north.
