Rising costs and industry challenges behind restaurant's decision to shut down

Portofino says decision to close in run up to Christmas has been hard

The rising cost of ingredients and labour are among the reasons a Douglas restaurant has announced it's closed down.

Portofino, based at Quay West, says the Isle of Man has not been immune to the economic and operational difficulties that have plagued the restaurant industry in recent times.

The business blames increased costs and the unpredictable nature of the hospitality industry for the closure.

In a post on social media, Portofino says the decision to shut has been hard, particularly turning down Christmas bookings at this time of year, but that it is extremely grateful to suppliers, chefs and staff who contributed to its legacy.
