Roads to close, ferries cancelled as floods threaten disruption

As the Island prepares for severe flooding today (3 Jan) the Department of Infrastructure is to close key routes in Douglas and along the Island's east coast from mid-morning.

A combination of strong winds and an exceptionally high tide at 12.30pm will disrupt normal daily routines.

The Steam Packet has cancelled this morning's 8.45am sailing to Heysham and the afternoon return, a decision will be made on tonight's service by 2pm.

Roads in the most at-risk areas will be shut from 11am, with the hope they can re-open at 3pm when the tide subsides.

They include Douglas Promenade between Broadway and Port Jack, Shore Road in Gansey, Castletown, Ramsey and Laxey Promenades, Parliament Street in Ramsey and North Quay in the capital.

The disruption will have a knock-on effect on bus services, with routes 1, 1A, 2, 4 and the Ramsey town service all diverted.

If you need help with flooding problems or storm damage call Ellerslie Control on 850000.

Maintenance manager at the DoI Alan Harding says residents need to help themselves to prevent overstretching the emergency services:
