Scheme for shared lives with vulnerable adults

Island residents who enjoy caring for others and like working from home are invited to consider taking-in a vulnerable adult.

The Department of Social Care is looking at launching a new scheme  'Shared Lives' where families are trained and paid to care for adults with learning difficulties or other needs, in their own homes.

Similar schemes are already in place around the UK and later this month, the head of an organisation which operates Shared Lives in Liverpool will visit the Island.

Pam Stopforth from PSS will advise social care chiefs on the feasibility and value of the programme and there'll be drop-in sessions for anyone interested to find out more.

Ms Stopforth says she's seen the scheme work incredibly well,  enhancing the lives of those giving care - and those receiving it:

Information sessions on Shared Lives are being held on Wed 15 January at Centre 21, Douglas, at 1pm and 5pm

On 16 January at Northern Lights Community Centre, Ramsey, at the same times.
