Stargazers have opportunity to see occultation of Mars

Rare event where the moon blocks the planet for an hour

Stargazers could be in for a ‘special’ treat tomorrow (Thursday, 8 December) as the moon blocks Mars.

It will create what’s known as a lunar occultation and will mean the planet will appear to be the brightest of all the stars in the sky.

The rare event is expected to last for around an hour.

Astronomer Howard Parkin is from AstroManx and says people will be able to see it with a naked eye or binoculars:
