Police officer left with broken finger during incident
An Anagh Coar man who attacked his wife while on probation for a previous domestic violence conviction has been given a suspended jail term.
Twenty-four-year-old Rui Filipe Monteiro Ramos of Cullyn Link appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.
He'd previously admitted charges of criminal damage, resisting police and assaulting his wife at her home on 15 November.
A previous hearing was told he was collecting his things from the house when he suddenly turned violent, grabbing her by the throat and smashing a mirror before she escaped and locked him out.
When police arrived, he turned his anger on them, swearing and struggling so violently a police officer suffered a broken finger.
Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon said Ramos was on probation after a similar assault on his wife in July 2019 and Mrs Hughes discharged the order.
She sentenced Ramos to a total of 32 weeks behind bars, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to pay £500 in compensation to the police officer he hurt and £125 towards prosecution costs.
