Teenager caught with more than £4,000 of cannabis

Nineteen-year-old caught by police in wooded area

A teenager who had more than £4,000 worth of cannabis has been committed to the Court of General Gaol delivery.

Nineteen-year-old Declan McBurnie of Anagh Coar Road in Douglas appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith at Douglas courthouse.

He admitted possessing cannabis in Pulrose on 12 October.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing a parcel was delivered to Clifton Terrace in Douglas and around half an hour later police spotted two men in Springfield Road.

The men went into a wooded area together, and police detained them as they came out - McBurnie had 215 grammes of the class B drug worth £4,300.

Police found the opened parcel in the trees, but when interviewed McBurnie answered no comment to all questions put to him.

Mr Arrowsmith said the case was too serious to be heard in a summary court.

He committed McBurnie to the higher court and remanded him in custody until he appears there on 11 December.
