Traffic disrupted

Motorists are being advised to take extra care on the roads this morning due to adverse weather conditions. High winds overnight have left debris on many roads, and snow, sleet or hail - heavy at times - are predicted today.

A light covering of snow on the Mountain Road and the coast road between Laxey and Ramsey has made driving conditions on the Islands roads slippery this morning. Sheet ice has affected the road between Brandish and Hillberry in Onchan.

Accidents have been reported already (0900hrs) at Handley's Corner and near the Creg ny Baa and Brandish Corner on the Mountain road, and traffic on the hill by the Whitebridge in Onchan is slipping on the icy road surface.

Police are asking drivers to only use the Mountain Road if absolutely essential.

Driving conditions could be difficult at most times through the day.

Road Safety Manager, Gordon Edwards, says in snowy conditions, windscreens should be fully cleared before motorists think about going anywhere:
