Manx rider takes overall winner's trophy

Manx cyclist Matthew Bostock came top of the podium at the end of the Manx Telecom International Stage Race this weekend.

The event got underway on Friday, with the fourth and final stage yesterday afternoon.

Bostock came second in that 83-mile stage but accrued enough points overall to become the event leader.

The 25-year-old will head to Birmingham this week as one of 13 cyclists representing the Isle of Man in the Commonwealth Games.

Already this year, he’s won the British National Circuit Race Championships and finished 5th in the National Road Race championships.

Meanwhile, South African cyclist Hayley Preen came top of the Women's event.

The leading Manx rider was Jessie Carridge, who finished 23rd overall.

The 30 year old will also compete in the CWG, in the Women's Time Trial and Women's Road Race.
