Commissioner: we need better gas regulator

Onchan member says OFT 'toothless'.

Onchan Commissioner Rob Callister says the issue of energy and utility regulation needs to be addressed by Tynwald.

He was speaking after Manx Gas announced changes to bills which will see standing charges rise and gas unit prices fall.

But Mr Callister says although the standing charge figures have been released, no information's been published about gas prices, making it impossible to know whether consumers would pay more or less.

He says the Island needs a better regulator.
