Two million surplus predicted in Cannan budget

Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan says budget forecasts have been prudent with so much uncertainty ahead in the next year.

Government is expected to report a £28 million surplus for this year - £18 million more than expected.

Mr Cannan says there are many threats on the horizon such as Brexit, Moneyval, VAT negotiations and international instability which could have a impact on the Manx economy.

He acknowledges forecasts have been downplayed as a result with only a £2 million surplus predicted for the year ahead:-
