Airport 'very close' to having new director

DoI says it's waiting for preferred candidate to accept

Ronaldsway Airport is 'very close' to having a new airport director.

That's according to the infrastructure minister who says his department is waiting for the preferred candidate to accept the position which carries a top salary of more than £103,000 per year.

It was advertised at the end of last year following the departure of former ports director Ann Reynolds.

At the time government said it wanted to find someone who could run a 'safe and efficient' airport.

The closing date for applications was 5 December and now, four months later, the recruitment process is reportedly in the final stages.

However it isn't the only position which the DOI needs to recruit for – in March the deputy airport director Jeremy Spake resigned from the post he'd taken up in 2018.

A leaked email at the time shared on social media – allegedly sent by Mr Spake – appeared to explain his resignation to staff working at the airport.

The news of his departure meant – due to the acting airport director being on sick leave – that Ronaldsway Airport has been left without an accountable manager.

Minister Tim Cookall says the department will need to recruit to replace him – but that process won't take place until the top position is filled:
