Awarding-winning Syrian poet to read her 'Lament' at Villa concert

Amineh won the Betjeman Poetry Prize in 2017

Refugee to recite poem at Choral Society concert

A 14-year-old Syrian refugee will star in an anniversary concert at the Villa Marina this weekend.

Amineh Abou Kerech, who received a top literary award for her poem 'Lament For Syria', will recite it at the Isle of Man Choral Society's concert tomorrow (7 Apr).

Amineh was forced to flee her home after civil war devastated the country.

After living in Egypt, she has now resettled in Oxford where she has been learning English for the last two years.

Following her reading, the Mannin Youth Choir will sing the poem to a musical composition by Karl Jenkins, with a solo from Mandy Griffin.

Amineh says her eight-year journey as a refugee has been 'difficult' but wants to remember Syria with fondness.

The concert takes place from 3pm tomorrow with tickets still available to buy online here.
