Family Library announces immediate closure

Staff investigating ways to keep up services

The Island's Family Library has confirmed it will be closing with immediate effect, following the IOM Government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the community centre is still looking to introduce new practises by 30 March to ensure children, young people, and the elderly still have access to its services .

Staff are investigating the feasibility of operating a ‘Library Porch’ in the lock-up facility next to the main library on Westmoreland Road in Douglas, where people can request and collect items.

A number of activity boxes will be loaned out – containing  books, games, DVDs and other educational items.

Courses will be live-streamed and recorded over the internet using Zoom Webinars.

Chairman of the Family Library Kurt Roosen says, 'we are striving to find inventive and collaborative ways to continue to reach out into our community.'
