Duo shine in open event

Tom Partington and Kevin Loundes were the leading local performers in the Ascot Hotel Walks and 10km Run at the NSC on Saturday.

Partington recorded a personal best by 20 seconds to win the 5 km event in a time of 24 minutes, 16 seconds.

Meanwhile, Loundes was the clear winner of the 10km run in an impressive time of 31 minutes 27 seconds.

It was a 1-2-3 for the host club with Manx Harriers’ athletes Jamie Newton and Michael Garrett completing the top three, recording respective times of 34.50 and 34.53.

Rachael Hamilton of Northern AC was the first woman home, finishing eighth overall in a time of 38.10, finishing ahead of  Elizabeth Egan of Bree and Karen Shimmin of Manx Harriers.

Evan Lynch of Clonmel was the winner of the 20km walk in a time of 1:32:28, just under 11 minutes clear of David Kidd of St Laurence O'Tooles.

Richard Gerrard was the first local home in third in 1:45:11 to claim the Northern Area Championship ahead of Manx Harriers walkers Michael George and Richard Wild.

In the10km walk, Clonmel's Aaron Egan took the honours in a time of 47 minutes 46 seconds, ahead of Veronica Burke of Ballinasloe who recorded 52.48.

Jock Waddington of Manx Harriers was third overall in 53.20.

Stephanie Quayle of Manx Harriers was the first local woman in a time of 63.04.

Manx Harriers’ juniors Olivia Corran and Holly Sanders finished first and second respectively in the opening event of the day, the 1km walk.
